What is NEMT?

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) is a service that helps individuals who cannot drive or use regular public transportation get to and from their medical appointments safely and comfortably.

Who can use NEMT services?

Anyone who needs assistance getting to a medical appointment may use NEMT. This includes, but is not limited to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

NEMT is also frequently used by individuals that have had medical procedures completed.

Can NEMT services be used for transportation outside of medical appointments?

Yes. We offer transportation to any destination. Some examples include family events, shopping trips, errands, banking, church events, hair appointments, and Airport runs.

What types of rides are available?

We provide rides for a variety of needs, including:

  • Wheelchair Transportation
  • Ambulatory Rides
  • Non-Emergency Stretcher Transportation

What is an Ambulatory ride?

A ride for individuals that require help getting to and from their homes or medical appointments.

What is a Wheelchair ride?

Rides in vehicles that are modified with specialized accessibility and safety features for wheelchair users.

What is a Care Level?

Specifying a “Care Level” allows our team to ensure our clients receive the help needed or their individual needs.

Door-to-Door: Your Driver will assist you from the door of your home to the door of your destination.

Curb-to-Curb: You wait out front and your Driver will pull up and assist you into the vehicle.

Hand-to-Hand: Your Driver will receive you from a caretaker and ensure you are handed off safely to the caregivers at your destination.

Is Stair Assistance Offered?

No. At the time Parable Mobility does not offer any aid with maneuvering wheelchairs up or down flights of stairs. All wheelchair clients need to be at ground level at the time of pick-up. The Clients Family and/or Caregivers should be utilized to assist when needed.

In some areas the local Fire Department offers stair assistance to residents in wheelchairs.

What if I need a Wheelchair?

Wheelchairs are available at an added cost and need to be reserved at the time of booking.

Three options are available:

  • Standard (Weight limit: 275lbs)
  • Bariatric (Weight limit: 500lbs)
  • Broad Traversa Transport Chair (Weight limit: 450lbs)

Do I have to be on Medicaid to use NEMT?

No. While Medicaid covers NEMT for eligible members, Parable Mobility is a private transportation service. We provide private-pay rides for individuals, families, hospitals, senior facilities, and other organizations. Clients should contact their insurance company to inquire about reimbursement for transportation related to medical appointments.

How do I schedule a ride?

You can schedule a ride by giving us a call (872-363-9540), using our online booking system, or through a facility (such as a hospital or nursing home) that arranges transport for patients.

For individual Clients, all invoices are required to be paid in full prior to being scheduled. Invoices are sent electronically via text message or email. Once received there will be a link to the payment system.

A booking confirmation will be sent to the client once payment is received.

How much does NEMT cost?

Costs vary depending on the type of trip (wheelchair, stretcher, or ambulatory),  distance, time, and day of the week. Clients will receive a detailed price quote before booking.

Below are the typical price ranges for NEMT services in the Chicagoland area. These are only estimates, each ride is required to be estimated at the time of booking.

Please note that these costs are dependent on several factors. There is also added cost incurred for Bariatric patients depending on the equipment needed for safe transport.

Ambulatory Services:  $30 to $50 one way.

Wheelchair Services:   $65 to $115 one way.

Stretcher Services:       $200 to $300 one way.

What should I expect during my ride?

Expect to be treated like Family !! Our drivers operate with the upmost professionalism and compassion. Drivers are trained in safety, passenger assistance, and customer service. Vehicles are equipped the latest safety features and Q-Straint securement systems. You will be picked up on time, assisted into the vehicle, and safely transported to your destination.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. One companion, such as family member or caregiver, is allowed to ride at no extra cost, depending on vehicle space. Please let us know when booking.

What areas do you serve?

Parable Mobility services the entire Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs. We also can accommodate most long distance trips.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 24–48 hours before your appointment. Same-day rides are accommodated as scheduling allows. Additional fees apply to all same day requests.

Rides are not confirmed until payment is received.

Who do I contact if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We understand that things happen. If you need to cancel or reschedule your ride please just give us a call. Our team will assist you with rescheduling or issuing a refund. You have up until 2 hours prior to your pick-up time to cancel your ride with no cancellation fee.
